The European Fencing Championships took place this year in Genoa, Italy, from 14th to 19th June 2025, where Carolina Stutchbury made history.
The highlight of the Euros was when Carolina Stutchbury became the first ever standing female fencer to win a European Championship silver medal in the Senior Women’s Foil.

Having claimed bronze in 2024, Carolina returned to the Euros with outstanding focus and composure.
Her gold medal match was against 25 year old French fencer Eva Lacheray (FRA), where Stutchbury just missed out on the title for Senior European Champion, with a final score of 15-13.

Speaking ahead of the medal ceremony, Stutchbury said:
“I’m delighted to have bettered my bronze medal from last year. To medal twice in a row gives me confidence in my ability to perform consistently at major events and I am looking forward to the World Champs in Tbilisi in July. As always, I am so thankful to my coaches, parents and everyone that has supported me here and at home.”
Piste-side coach, Keith Cook, added:
“It has been a real pleasure to support Carolina today. She managed to keep her cool despite the heat and humidity, fighting her way through some tough and experienced opposition. Beating two Italians in front of a noisy home crowd on the way to the final is testament to her mental resilience, and in the final she kept the pressure on until the very end.”
The second day of the Euros saw the Individual Senior Women’s Sabre and Individual Senior Men’s Epee take the stage.

Day three of the Euros saw Kamal Minott place 12th in the Senior Men’s Foil, with Jaimie Cooking reaching 29th out of the other 71 foilists.

On day four, the team events began for the GBR Seniors, where they displayed remarkable passion and energy throughout the competition.

Our Senior Men’s Epee and Senior Women’s Sabre squads faced some challenging matches but put in a great team effort when it came to their turn to compete.

GBR’s Luke Deamer was selected to referee at the European Championships. He refereed from poules until a last 8, with later rounds as video and assessor.

Luke said, on his time in Genoa, “It was a great experience to referee my second European senior championships! It’s great fun to be amongst the best fencers and referees in Europe, especially with such a great venue and host city.”
“Thanks to British Fencing and all my referee colleagues for helping me get to this point.”
Georgina Usher, BF’s CEO, also attended as the EFC Safeguarding Officer.
The foil and epee team events took place on the final day, bringing the Euros to a close.

With many personal achievements and lessons for everyone, we now look ahead to the 2025 World Championships in Tbilisi.
